Parent-child relationships need to be maintained on a long-term basis.
Nowadays, however, because both parents often have to work,
the number of latchkey children keeps increasing.
These children usually grow without much care from parents.
Aside from doing homework, they can only watch TV or chat online with friends.
At the other extreme, many children cannot get along with their parents.
They often quarrel with their parents over trivial matters.
Worse still, some parents pry too much. They read their children’s mail and
even listen in on their phone calls.
To improve their relationships, both parents and children must learn to care more about each other.
Parent-child interactivity should be encouraged. Instead of having TV dinner,
they can find time to eat out. They can discuss their own problems to enhance mutual understanding.
Also, children must respect their parents and parents should not invade children’s privacy.
To sum up, both parents and children must make every effort to promote their relationships.
