His stories are in the form of fairy tales, ghost stories, or romances. But in all of them his humor has an edge like a knife,
when "The Lady, or the Tiger?" appeared in Century Magazine in 1882, it caused excitement all over the country.
Thousands of people wrote letters to the magazine or to their newspapers about it. Many letters demanded an answer to the question that the story asks.
Others asked if the story was really about government, psychology, the battle of the sexes, or something else.
Wisely, Stockton never answered any of the letters. The story remains as fresh today as it was then. He was died in 1902.
Summarize the plot
A long time ago, the king had a beautiful daughter. She fell in love with civilian youth man. In accordance with the provisions of the country, civilians fell in love with the royal family is guilty.
The king was so angry. He catch the young man to the arena. There were two doors in the arena. The young man must to choose one of them.
The kind puts a beautiful maiden behind one door and the other a ferocious tiger. His daughter is able to find out which is behind each door.
The question is would she rather lose her love to a tiger and certain death or to a beautiful young woman.
The young man looks to her and she indicates which door he should open and he goes immediately to the door.
The story ends without the reader knowing what was behind the door. The reader has to decide for himself-did she love him enough to save his life only to see him married to another?

and develop their conscience through compassion because people are inherently good. I believe the princess will indicate which door he should open.
